Dear clients, colleagues and friends,
The legal landscape surrounding data protection in the United States continues to evolve and expand during 2024, after significant expansion in the previous year.
Since the beginning of the year,
7 additional US states (
Kentucky,
Maryland,
Minnesota,
Nebraska,
New Hampshire,
New Jersey and
Vermont) have enacted
comprehensive general privacy laws, and joined the previous 12 states that have enacted such laws in recent years. Other states’ privacy laws are on the way.
While the various laws share significant similarities in their
key concepts and principles, they vary in the
particular rights granted to data subjects and their scope.
Recognizing the challenges that this fragmented landscape presents, we are pleased to publish the 3
rd edition of our
comparative guide, which simplifies the differences between the various US states’ privacy laws in relation to
data subject (consumer) rights and a couple of
additional key requirements.
